The origins of the
Peugeot companies go up far in time with the construction of water
mills at the 18th century, and then the manufacture of tools at the
beginning of the 19th century.
The lion is the emblem of the mark. It is present also on the blazon of Franche-comté where the Peugeot family is originating. |

In 1882 appears a Grand-Bi model. In 1885 Peugeot manufactures its bicycles at Beaulieu. In the same time
Peugeot develops the manufacture of motor vehicles with a steam engine
at the time of the World Fair of 1889, quickly replaced by
spark-ignition engines on tricycles and quadricycles.

Peugeot takes an
active part in all the great cycle races and withdraws publicity from
it.
Only for the Tour de France we can quote the victories of the Peugeot bicycles for the years: 1905 with Louis
Trousselier
1906 with René Pottier 1907 et 1908 with Petit-Breton 1913 et 1914 with Philippe Thys ....... 1967 with Roger Pingeon 1975 et 1977 with Bernard Thevenet |

victories will not make forget the suicide of the champion and Peugeot
racer, Rene Pottier. One will find it hung in the buildings of Peugeot,
seems you it following a unhappy love affair.

manufactures tools, cycles and motorcycles.
