Woman'bicycle with Rétro-direct system

Réf.: V26

I found it in august 1998 in Gien, Loiret, France

Hirondelle is a mark of the Manufacture Française d'Armes et Cycles de Saint-Etienne.

The head badge lost some of its colors.

It is a two-gear model without derailment of chain, with system retro-direct. For explanation the rear wheel has two independents gearwheels with reversed freehub. The chain is rolled up around the two gearwheels. The second development (to climb the hills) is obtained while pedalling in reverse.

The Retro-direct was patented by Manufacture in 1902 and it remained in the catalogue until 1939.

This model must date from the period 1933 - 1935.

As I had never had this kind of system, I had to take it a picture before disassembling.

Unfortunately the painting of origin had completely disappeared.
